Sun-Drying Natural Fibers

Periodic sun-drying helps maintain the freshness and integrity of natural fiber storage containers. Place your baskets or boxes in indirect sunlight for a few hours every few months.

Direct sunlight can cause fading, so choose a spot with filtered light. This process helps prevent moisture buildup and keeps the fibers from becoming brittle over time.

Using Natural Oils

Natural oils can help prevent brittleness in woven fiber containers. Apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil or coconut oil to the surface using a soft cloth.

Use oils sparingly and only when needed. Over-application can attract dust and create a sticky surface. A light application every six months is usually sufficient.

Allow the area to air dry completely before using the container again. Never submerge natural fiber containers in water, as this can cause warping.

Preventing Damage

Protect your natural fiber storage containers from excessive moisture and direct heat sources. Keep them away from radiators, heaters, and areas with high humidity.

When storing items inside, avoid overloading containers beyond their capacity. This helps maintain the shape and prevents stress on the woven structure.

Rotate containers periodically if they're in direct sunlight or high-traffic areas. This ensures even wear and prevents one side from fading or becoming damaged more quickly than others.
